What’s with the lame lime green logo on the home page?

One answer is that I am a biology major who only teaches physics, and who has no idea how to make an awesome graphic.  It was the best I could do.  I actually did put a little thought into that graphic.  In fact that graphic haunts me.

Let’s take a look.  7 boxes.  The 4th one is huge.  The boxes get a little bigger as you move to the right.  All the boxes are green.

These boxes represent the terrifying college expenses looming in the next 7 years.  They are green because they represent money.  Lots of money. The left box represents tuition for my son’s (JumpStart Jack) freshman year, which will be the 2017-18 school year. The next box is tuition for my son for the 2018-19 school year.  It is a little bigger because despite campaign slogans and promises, I’m predicting tuition will increase.  It will increase again for my son’s junior year box.  The middle box will be 2020/21 and it is especially terrifying to me.  I will have 2 kids in college, and the house will be quiet.  Next the 5th and 6th box for my daughter’s (JumpStart Jill) sophomore and junior year.  The final 7th block and college is done.

The boxes represent a ton of money.  If I took all the money I earn for the next 4 years.  It would almost fill those boxes.  And I mean all the money.  I’d have to dodge taxes, bum food, give up beer diet coke, walk to work, wear old clothes, and never get sick.  Hopefully my wife will use her earnings to pay the mortgage and keep Jumpstart Jill and the dog alive.
